My morning, around 11:30: I look at the clock, I attempt breathing through the nose, I turn over and go back to sleep.

Nearly three hours later Mike wakes me up with "You're allowed to sleep the day away since you're sick, but if you don't want to sleep the day away I'm here to let you know." Very thoughtful. He had Monday off and has next Monday off, thanks to where holidays have fallen this year, so he's effectively getting a ten-day vacation for the price of four vacation days. Tough to beat a deal like that.

Meanwhile I don't feel like doing much but this huddle-under-blankets routine, so I snatched that end-of-year fandom meme from [personal profile] dynastessa.

Your main fandom of the year?
Not that I've ever done a cannonball right into the fandom pool, but my main fandom of the last two years has been Battlestar Galactica.

Your favorite film watched this year?
I'm going to assume this means in theaters? This year we went out to see Green Lantern, Deathly Hallows part 2, zombie flick Dead Snow (which I wouldn't have picked, but it was a package deal for a night out with friends after spectating at the Zombie Walk this Halloween), Tower Heist, and Young Goethe in Love. Most of those were fun, but none of them really grabbed me in that must-own-and-fangirl type of way. I don't remember if I saw Black Swan before or after New Year's last year, but it's my winner if it was after.

Your favorite book read this year?
A Clash of Kings. Wedding planning kept me in reading limbo for months, so it's easily my book of the year even though I haven't finished it yet.

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
My most-played album this year was probably Foo Fighters: Greatest Hits. Usually even on greatest hits albums there are two or three songs I'm significantly less wild about, but this one is a rare exception to that rule. My favorite single song to listen to this year was probably "Read My Mind" by The Killers.

Your favorite TV shows of the year?
- BSG and Bebop are still the all-time favorites
- Hell on Wheels
- The Walking Dead (although we haven't seen most of this season yet)

Your favorite fan community of the year?
I haven't been heavily involved in any fan communities this year, so I guess my favorite was [livejournal.com profile] ineedmyfics, the off-season fanfic exchange Gwynne and I ran the past two summers.

I've never been this die-hard in a shippy sense, but if [livejournal.com profile] pyramidofdreams got more active I'd be all over it.

Your best new TV discovery of the year?
I saw the first two or three episodes of Breaking Bad. It was absolutely brutal -- so brutal I'm not sure I could take watching more than an episode or two in one day -- but it was beautifully acted.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Well, I want Michael Trucco in shows that will actually put him to good use and that I can wholeheartedly love, but that's probably not my biggest fandom disappointment. Mad Men: we've watched about six or seven episodes this year via Netflix, and based on everything I'd read I was sure I'd end up liking it so much more than I do. And maybe The Killing? I loved most of it, but I found the season finale in particular to be a real disappointment.

Your TV boyfriend of the year?
I think it's safe to say Samuel T. Anders has been my TV boyfriend.

Your TV girlfriend of the year?
My TV girlfriend is probably Liz Lemon. My favorite TV ladies are still Kara Thrace and Laura Roslin, but I spend too much time writing from Kara's point of view for her to be my TV girlfriend and as much I wish lifetimes of love and laughter and men who will cater to her whims upon Laura I consistently think of her more as space!mom.

Your biggest squee moment of the year?
I don't even know, so I'll just share a random fangirl squee of the year.

If you're both a Sam Anders fan and a Psych fan and could see this shot without having a my-worlds-are-colliding-and-I-love-it moment, you're a stronger woman than I am.

The most missed of your old fandoms?
Cowboy Bebop?

The TV show you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Game of Thrones. I need it on Netflix now.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
The Hobbit. The Dark Knight Rises. Diablo III, which probably won't come out on time. I'd say Dragon Age 3, but I don't think we even have an ETA on that.

And now it's time for some hot chocolate.

I'd like to share a cup of hot chocolate with you.

An episode of Breaking Bad this season came with an "extreme violence" warning, but nothing (in my ever so humble opinion) is quite as bad as those first three episodes. It took me a while to get into the series, mostly because I didn't think I could stand how disgusting it was going to be if it kept up like those first few episodes, but it settled down into brilliant characterization, brilliant acting, and brilliant storytelling. This upcoming season is the last, so if you decide to go back and catch up, let me know. I could be persuaded to watch some of it with you again.

Despite my early misgivings, it's become one of my favorite shows. It's so many puzzle pieces starting to fit together, and I'm really curious to see how it will come to a close.

(Not as favorite as BSG, though.)

No devil-staring Mike into getting you hot chocolate? I'm so disappointed. Only not really.

Breaking Bad's not BSG, but in terms of writing & attention to characterization, it's right up there. The subject matter is just so harsh and unappealing -- it's hard to sympathize with meth-heads and meth dealers and the drug culture in general -- but they do a hell of a job with it.
