lostinapapercup: (you've got to hide your love away)
Dear Yuletide Writer,

Hi! I'm SO excited that you're going to write a story for me in one of these fandoms. I'd like to point out, as usual, that details are optional, but this is the place to be if you're looking for ideas about what I like and stories I'm especially interested in reading.

Click for more! )

Hopefully that's enough to help you out if you're here for ideas. Have fun writing your story, and I promise I'll have fun reading it!
lostinapapercup: (they'll never throw it back to you)
Just all the recent [livejournal.com profile] twelvecolonies stuff I can admit to doing. Nooooot the most graphically gifted person, but some of this stuff I actually like! And some of it I can only look at and think "Hey, I broke out of my comfort zone, damn it!"

sigtags and Lee icons and headers and a drabble, oh my )

I haven't done memes in a while, so here's two.

Comment here and I'll:
Tell you why I friended you
Associate you with something
Tell you something I like about you
Tell you a memory I have of you
Associate you with a character or pairing
Ask something I've always wanted to know about you
Tell you my favorite userpic of yours

And #2!
Name a character I know and I'll tell you:
What I like about this character
What I dislike about this character
All of the people I ship romantically with this character
My platonic OTPs
An Unpopular Opinion
One thing I wish would happen/would have happened to this character
lostinapapercup: (though nothing can bring back the hour)
I had to make some Kara/Sam icons for a challenge a few weeks ago. Because Kara and Sam are a terrible hardship for me, I got a little carried away. But I thought I'd go ahead and post them (now that it's so painless to do with a working laptop!) in case anyone was interested.

(And if you're the type to want more where that came from I have some other K/S icons in previous tagged posts.)

Also including a handful of other BSG icons: Bill, Gaeta, Kara + Helo, Laura, Lee, Leoben, Sam, Tory. Mostly men this time after all the [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon stuff.

(Sorry if I'm spamming, guys.)

[personal profile] in_the_blue and I have been in talks about running [livejournal.com profile] ineedmyfics again this summer, and we're going for it.

[livejournal.com profile] ineedmyfics is a small and cozy multi-fandom fic exchange where we impose no size limits on fandom nominations. So long as you nominate it, it's up for grabs.

Those interested can find this year's schedule here. You can also scroll down this page to see the list of previously nominated fandoms. FAQs are here.

We'd love to have anyone interested! And for those of us branching out onto Dreamwidth, we'll be mirroring everything there this year.
lostinapapercup: (she's the first one to go)
I feel like I'm stressing about everything. If I could punch May in the face right now I'd do it, and then I'd tell June to take that as a warning.

Does anyone have anything awesome to share?

lostinapapercup: (though nothing can bring back the hour)
I watched Longmire last night because of Starbuck and La Bamba. I feel like I've barely liked anything I've been seeing the BSG cast in lately (although I did really like The Killing for a while!), but to my surprise I actually kind of enjoyed Longmire. Not a shoo-in for my attention, but I'll dvr at least the next few episodes and see how it goes.

I'm answering my top fives from a few posts back (about as slowly as this old laptop's running), but I'm looking to catch up on all things ever and kick-start my writing again so this meme I saw over at [livejournal.com profile] lizardbeth_j's journal seemed like fun:

Pick a pairing and I'll write a short scene where they share a kiss.

It doesn't have to be a canon pairing; it doesn't even have to be a pairing I prefer. Crossovers welcome! I can definitely work with BSG, Cowboy Bebop, LOST, Dragon Age. I can probably still work with Fairly Legal and Baccano! Uh, basically I'll try anything you've seen in my interests, and if you know I've watched/read/played something that's not there I can probably give it a shot too. No promises about the kind of kiss, though.
lostinapapercup: (wearing love is easier than showing it)
I always like this one, spotted at the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] plaid_slytherin's journal tonight.

Ask me my Top Five Whatevers. Fannish or literary or otherwise. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! Fandoms, ice cream flavours, cartoon moments, women in my fandoms, OTPs, ideal holiday destinations, goals for the future, celebrity crushes, etc.
lostinapapercup: (they'll never throw it back to you)
[livejournal.com profile] lizardbeth_j's recent post reminded me to boost the signal:

[livejournal.com profile] not_primetime is open for sign-ups through May 8th. I can't seem to resist many fic exchanges where writing BSG is a possibility, and the other night [personal profile] in_the_blue and I spent some time trying to broaden the list of nominated characters a little. (Most major ships are possible now, I think?)

And on a related note, I participated in [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix for the first time. Serious case of the nerves, but it was definitely a friendly experience. I wrote Do the Best With the Souls We've Been Given, an Ishay-centered remix of [livejournal.com profile] lizardbeth_j's Finding You Again, an AU where Sam wakes from a coma after two months instead of going down the "no brain activity" rabbit hole. And I got treated to a remix of my 2010 [livejournal.com profile] ineedmyfics story Things to Do on Galactica When You're Dead in Fate Averted, in which [livejournal.com profile] lizardbeth_j took on not one or two characters but all five and made slight adjustments that saved each life. There was some great fic remixed; I still haven't read and commented to everything I'd like to.

Title: Flying Blind
Author: [livejournal.com profile] lostinapapercup
Pairing: Kara/Sam
Summary: Kara and Sam in the year on New Caprica.
Word Count: ~2100
Notes: Written for the charity drive at [livejournal.com profile] bsg_epics. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] wishflsinfl for the prompt that served as inspiration. And to [livejournal.com profile] in_the_blue for reading it over.

It's raining. )
lostinapapercup: (though nothing can bring back the hour)
And to complete my [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon project, here are the Kara icons. Near the end you'll find guest appearances by Slick, Saul, Athena, Helo, Leoben, Lee, and Sam.

As before, feel free to take anything that interests you, and I'd love a comment if you choose to.

It's no secret that I love BSG's ladies. For [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon this year I made icons to celebrate that love. This was just a Starbuck project at first and then expanded, but for the sake of my sanity this first post is women who aren't Kara Thrace. Below you'll find:

Athena (+Helo)
Boomer (+Chief)
D'Anna (+Caprica, +Gaius)
Dee (+Billy, +Lee)
Ellen (+Saul)
Jean Barolay
Laura (+Bill, +Billy, +Tory)
Six (head!Six, Caprica, Gina, Lida, Natalie, +Gaius)

If there's anything you like enough to grab, feel free. I'd love to hear about it.

Hello, friends list. How's your day been?

I'm writing! Incredibly slowly and admittedly without a lot of confidence, but I've finished ficlets this week for the first time since December and I can't even explain how good that's felt. So yeah, still thankful for those prompts given last week and working on the ones that haven't gone up yet.

Thinking about making a low-gluten version of these this weekend.

I've got some [livejournal.com profile] pyramidofdreams folks on my friends list, and this part's for you. )

I stumbled across one of my favorite Ron Swanson moments on youtube today. It's also very much something my sweetheart would say about his job.
lostinapapercup: (I saw the devil wrapping up his hands)
I'm about to head out for running errands and getting treated to birthday dinner, but in the meantime I have a request. I would really, really love to feel like I can string sentences together; I've been in a creative slump for long enough that it's starting to spread. So... if you leave me a character or two -- or a pairing -- and a specific prompt (a lyric or a color or your favorite four-letter word, whatever) I will write it out.

And be very appreciative in the process!
lostinapapercup: (survival instinct)
I feel like I barely got anything written this year, but I'm still doing these memes.

First, here's the one where you copy the first lines of each fic you wrote during the year. I don't actually remember seeing it around this year, but I saw it more than once a year ago and never did it myself. I'm including unfinished/unposted fics I've worked on this year but excluding any drabbles I don't have collected in one place and anything written for RP purposes.

2011's first lines. )

And next, snatched from [livejournal.com profile] wanderlustlover, the end-of-year fic roundup. )
lostinapapercup: (promise not to stop when I say when)
I'm pretty sure anyone who knows me and happened to read either of these stories will not be surprised, but...

For Yuletide this year I wrote If I Only Had a Heart, pre-canon Kate/Justin from Fairly Legal, and I also wrote Someone You Don't Know, a fairy tale-infused Yuletide Madness fic inspired by The Airborne Toxic Event's "Sometime Around Midnight."

I've got your commentary right here. )

As always, thank you to [personal profile] in_the_blue for playing beta. One day I'm going to end up getting her requests in my inbox when assignments go out, and I'll have to do this elaborate song and dance to make her believe I'm writing for someone else.
lostinapapercup: (she's the first one to go)
My morning, around 11:30: I look at the clock, I attempt breathing through the nose, I turn over and go back to sleep.

Nearly three hours later Mike wakes me up with "You're allowed to sleep the day away since you're sick, but if you don't want to sleep the day away I'm here to let you know." Very thoughtful. He had Monday off and has next Monday off, thanks to where holidays have fallen this year, so he's effectively getting a ten-day vacation for the price of four vacation days. Tough to beat a deal like that.

Meanwhile I don't feel like doing much but this huddle-under-blankets routine, so I snatched that end-of-year fandom meme from [personal profile] dynastessa.

Snipped to spare your friends list. )

And now it's time for some hot chocolate.
lostinapapercup: (survival instinct)
I hope those of you who celebrated Christmas had a merry one.

For a while there I thought I could escape December without coming down with what I've started calling my traditional December cold. No such luck! It came just in time for Christmas. This year I didn't get any of the fannish stuff on my wishlist, but I got all the baking stuff. Two gluten-free dessert cookbooks, a vegan cookies cookbook, and a cupcake corer/decorating set. Obviously people are sending me a message. My brother-in-law's wife provided the vegan cookies book and said it was the most self-serving gift she'd ever given. I told her it was fine since I'd asked for it! I'm not a vegan, for the record, but I'm interested in trying out vegan desserts.

For Yuletide this year I received two stories! Glancing at them again now, I don't think either of them has received even half of the attention they deserve. The first is Infinite Distances Halved, an Andrea-centered Walking Dead story that I love, love, love. It's a quick well-characterized read that packs a beautiful punch. The second is the treat I received today, Keep Running, a wonderfully written character piece about Sarah Linden from The Killing. I love them, guys.

This is my quietest Yuletide as far as feedback goes, but I expected that. I wrote in tiny fandoms this year, plus the treat I wrote was... well, I think it was sort of an acquired taste on a few different levels, but most of those had to do with the request itself. Hopefully the recipient will read it and like it.

As for livejournal, I'm not impressed by recent developments. I've been spending some time exploring dreamwidth in a way I didn't when I first signed up a few years ago, and since I didn't have anything in my original DW account worth writing home about, I went ahead and registered this name there. I've spent so long getting used to being referred to as [livejournal.com profile] lostinapapercup on livejournal that having a journal with a different name on dreamwidth just felt weird. (As an aside, I've recently discovered that lostinapapercup is much more popular as a username than it was when I first started using it. I don't use this name anywhere but here and dreamwidth, and I can assure you that I'm not involved with Twilight fanfic.) I don't know what I'll do with the previous account I'd made, but for now I'm going to crosspost under this name on both sites. I no longer feel much affection toward LJ; the problem has always been finding fandom outlets elsewhere, and while DW is loved by fandom in general, it's never seemed to be where the action is.

What else? Tomorrow (or later today, heh) we go back home, and at this point I'm probably just going to huddle under blankets and nurse this cold for most of the week. Maybe I'll finally get to read some Yuletide stories that weren't written for me.

And for what it's worth, my holiday offer is still wide open through the end of the day on January 1st!
lostinapapercup: (stuck in a snow globe)
So much to write, so little time left for doing it. Where has December gone?

Where has this year gone?

Also, marshmallow- and whipped cream-flavored vodkas? I'm don't know whether I'm horrified and compelled to try them.
